Here is a steampunk desktop wallpaper which fits my laptop screen like a glove. It may well fit yours too. Here is a small screenshot of the wallpaper by itself. I modified an exisitng image by Robert Czarny adding the heat ray projection and some portholes on the tripods.
The zipfile contains a variety of different size screens for desktop systems.

It works perfectly with my widgets, giving the widgets and icons a place to 'be'.

This wallpaper is not too cluttered leaving you with plenty of usable workspace but you can have it as cluttered as you like.
